The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
I had the amazing opportunity to contribute to the opening title design for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Set in Knowhere during the festive season, the inhabitants are intrigued by tales of Earth's holiday traditions. When an alien band, portrayed by the Old 97’s, stumbles upon some Earthly musical instruments, they perform a song for Peter Quill, marking an important moment in intergalactic history.

The Process
As one of the designers assigned to the project, I created the style frames with the type layouts and effects as shown that were selected by the client. It was such a fun look to develop: a hazy VHS glow on charming typography, contrasting with the sci-fi alien planets that we see in The Guardians of the Galaxy.
Drawing inspiration from 1970s TV specials and vintage holiday typography, we worked on crafting a typographic style distinct from the previous films. After exploring various options, we settled on Bookman as our main typeface. Its charming swash glyphs captured the friendly sitcom vibe while also evoking the warmth of a holiday card. This juxtaposition of styles perfectly suited the overall vibe of the show, and I'm thrilled to have been a part of it.
